I turned 26!

written on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 @ 12:13 AM ♥

As the moon comes out and the clock strikes twelve... I am officially 26 now.

Sitting on the cold floor and speed-blogging about adding candles onto my cake in an extremely messy room is totally what my life is about right now - Alone, hectic and messy.

But it's not all bad.  :)

So how was 25? Challenging.

Last year, this time I was jobless. Hopping out of my first job which was comfortable and secure, I stepped into the real world where it has been one rude awakening after the next.

Life has been crazy the past year and I have probably experienced more ups and downs than all the previous years combined. It seems to get more and more difficult with time and in the process you just learned how to deal with all of this. I know this sounds too depressing for a birthday post but it is not that bad.

With time, I think I grew stronger mentally and learned to make difficult decisions. Built up a truckload of experiences behind me and am more able to express myself which is great! I know who I am and am comfortable with being me. More at peace with myself as well instead of internal debates between the brain and the heart.

As I get older, I believe life will only get more and more trying because more responsibilites follows with age.

Therefore, this year, I wish that my heart will always be the same no matter my age.

Time will make me older and wiser, but there will always be a fun-loving and silly me at the core. I must not let the downs affect me. Hopefully I will always be game to try something new, willing to help others in need and laughing out loud even during stormy days.

Happy Birthday to me!

A job is not just a job

written on Thursday, July 10, 2014 @ 1:29 AM ♥

I've been very obsessed with my desktop wallpaper at work recently!

ITS SO CUTE!! This Minion looks so full of hope and happiness haahaha.

Every morning I will turn on my computer, admire it for a few seconds then get to work. And whenever someone comes to my desk I will happily clear my screen and show to the person.

Nothing much on my desk yet because I heard we're moving to a new office.

With that, I shall keep calm and not bring too much barang till we move.

I'm finally feeling pretty comfortable in my job and this means that it's back to being the old me where I can walk around to mingle with colleagues, share food happily and plan what good food to have for lunch in the morning.

Doing what you enjoy and having a bunch of supportive and clickable colleagues is really important!!

This is in contrast to my previous workplace where I was having a hard time trying to fit in with the older colleagues who like talk about parenting/news plus forced to do account servicing.

I tried very hard to fit in and get used to it but it was quite a difficult time.

During which I have to decide whether I should job hunt again, when decided I have to spam resumes to potential companies, answer insane amount of phone calls from recruiters and prep myself for interviews - all while balancing a full time job.

However, none of all this can be compared to how terrible you feel because of the insecurities of your current job (to leave? But pay okay, so not to leave? But shit occurs, so to leave? But so near my house... SO 你到底要怎样!).

Quitting a job is really no easy feat because changes are scary.

Which is why it takes a lot of faith, and most importantly for the job to push you to a breaking point, before you take the leap. This leap sucks and I hate it. I hate the instability, the stress, the emotional times and how tiring it is.

But with every leap you learn a little more, grow a little more and hopefully... Pay increases a little more! :)

If you ever feel lost in Life

written on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 @ 1:27 PM ♥

Just keep your head up, work hard, ask questions, read often, meet new people, listen more and withhold doubt that the first of many careers will end up finding you. (source)

Something new

written on Monday, November 18, 2013 @ 11:02 PM ♥

Today is that start of my third work week at an entirely new place.

I'm finally ready to blog about my new job because the past two weeks have been a hell of a roller coaster ride for me.

For the past two weeks, I was ready to quit any moment and I tried very hard to persuade myself to stay. In fact I think I tried too hard to persuade myself to like my new job. I even teared silently while working HAHAHA. So embarrassing omg.

The constant gloomy weather this month made it even worse and I even tripped and fell in the rain on my way home one day. Had to continue walking to the bus stop as if nothing happened to save myself from embarrassment while blood drizzled down my shin. This made me wanna cry even more.

I blame it on PMS for making me a sensitve emo bitch.

I am usually clumsy so for that I have no one to blame.

But anyway, I couldn't get used to the new environment and have a hard time convincing myself that this is it. This is where I will be working for the next two years of my life (hopefully).

Because. It's really different.

I used to work in an open environment with people my age. We used to mix work and play together so I guess that motivates us to work hard because after which we can play hard too. Most of times we blurred the lines between work and play and I get confused on what is exactly work and what exactly is play. You answer emails/messages and attend events after working hours and on weekends, which sounds like it suck but sometimes you have fun and enjoy yourself at the same time too.

Now, I work in a cubicle and I am the youngest there. Everyone leaves the office on the dot and nobody stays till late. Work is work and play is play. (But don't misunderstand, my colleagues are really nice so far!) There is no need to work overtime or on the weekends. I cannot say I totally enjoy work for now, but I'm still learning and I have picked quite a few new and interesting things here and there which is cool. I love learning new things!

Even the target audience is totally different!

But one day, I suddenly realised I shouldn't be comparing this with my first job and why am I forcing myself so hard for. Siao.

No two jobs can ever be the same and I wouldn't be gaining anything from this if it's the same. If I like it, I stay; if I don't like it, I go. Simple as that.

Since then, just like magic, work really got better! We have quite a few exciting projects coming up and it continues to excite me more and more although I still need some time to get closer to my new colleagues :/

It's still very different but that's good what! I hope its somewhere I can learn and absorb as much as I can, push myself beyond my limits and gain more experience and exposure.

Just today, we went out for a short market survey and my mentor kindly explained to me a lot things about our competitors and business model. Getting to know more about marketing. Finally.

I hope I get to go out of the office more, meet more people my age and do more stuff on social media because it's a skill I don't wanna lose. So far, all of it seems possible so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the best!

Have faith, work hard and amazing things will happen.

:)

Excited. Elated. Nervous. Worried.

All into one.

But it's really time I move on.

To a good beginning tomorrow!

Same old us. Just the way I like it.

written on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 @ 12:16 AM ♥

Been meeting the ex-colleagues quite often lately. Glad and grateful that even though a lot of things have changed around us, we are all still the same.

Still childishly insulting and laughing at each other.
Still enjoy pigging out together.

Same old simple and happy us.

Prawning at Bishan for Rudy's farewell.

The friendships forged in Churp Churp are the best and most precious thing that I've gained during my time there.

我们还是和以前一样。开开心心,简简单单。

Follow your dreams. Chase after it.

written on Monday, September 24, 2012 @ 12:43 AM ♥

Wanted to talk about chasing after your dreams because I have been feeling very inspired by the people I meet lately who are chasing after theirs.

I have always thought that "Following your Dreams" is always just a quote from somewhere, meant to inspire you but no one really ever got to doing it. Like one of those things you always say to a child when he is growing up, daring them to have big ambitions but then when they grow up, things get real and everyone forgets about these dreams...

And so, I really thought, dreams only happen when:

  1. You're sleeping at night, or
  2. If you like to building sandcastles in the air, it can happen in the day as well (ie. daydream)
The only rare times when people really get to live in their dream is when that someone is really rich, or just highly talented. Which is like 0.01% of the people on Earth. And I am guessing la, out of which are very very very few Singaporeans... simple because we are such a pragmatic bunch of people.

"梦想是不可以当饭吃的!"

That's definitely what most of us would say.

This was until I started working at Churp Churp (the blue bird).

Being the nature of my job, it's very fortunate that I get to meet a variety of people everywhere doing many different things. And. Holy shit. There ARE people out there struggling and fighting for their dreams in Singapore every single day. Not in any way more special/rich/highly talented than us, but normal people, just like us.

Knowing what they do and face everyday, and yet never giving up has definitely inspired me in many ways. I see the aspiring Singers, Actors and Bloggers working extremely hard despite all insecurities, criticisms and unknowns in the pursuit of their dreams.

From an outsider's point of view, it's stupid, short-term and unstable. You don't know when your big break is going to be, probably never. You don't know have have a stable income and no cpf. The time you spent on it so far, outweighs the benefits.

There is so many things you can critise about it and precisely because of this, I salute them for their bravery. The courage to follow your dreams. The courage to throw aside everything and just do it. The courage to try.

While the rest of us looked on, complained and talked about our big dreams; They are the ones sacrificing everything, giving all that they have and putting their foot forward into the unknown. They are the ones living their dream and doing it.

Which often led me to questioning myself... What am I doing with my life?

With that, I have decided to start planning and move tiny steps forward to hopefully have a shot at something different.

Starting as a hobby and hopefully it goes somewhere.

If it doesn't succed, at least I've tried.

Okay so I'm gonna list down a few dreams I have in mind.

  1. Set up a cafe of my own.
  2. Take up a pastry course in Le Cordon Bleu.
  3. Backpack around Europe.
  4. Travel somewhere for a few months and do social work there.

很多人安于现状,不敢去尝试。
如果不踏出第一步,永远就只能去想象。
只怕一辈子过了,才来后悔。
