I turned 26!

written on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 @ 12:13 AM ♥

As the moon comes out and the clock strikes twelve... I am officially 26 now.

Sitting on the cold floor and speed-blogging about adding candles onto my cake in an extremely messy room is totally what my life is about right now - Alone, hectic and messy.

But it's not all bad.  :)

So how was 25? Challenging.

Last year, this time I was jobless. Hopping out of my first job which was comfortable and secure, I stepped into the real world where it has been one rude awakening after the next.

Life has been crazy the past year and I have probably experienced more ups and downs than all the previous years combined. It seems to get more and more difficult with time and in the process you just learned how to deal with all of this. I know this sounds too depressing for a birthday post but it is not that bad.

With time, I think I grew stronger mentally and learned to make difficult decisions. Built up a truckload of experiences behind me and am more able to express myself which is great! I know who I am and am comfortable with being me. More at peace with myself as well instead of internal debates between the brain and the heart.

As I get older, I believe life will only get more and more trying because more responsibilites follows with age.

Therefore, this year, I wish that my heart will always be the same no matter my age.

Time will make me older and wiser, but there will always be a fun-loving and silly me at the core. I must not let the downs affect me. Hopefully I will always be game to try something new, willing to help others in need and laughing out loud even during stormy days.

Happy Birthday to me!

Life of an unemployed

written on Monday, September 2, 2013 @ 10:32 PM ♥

Happy.

Beyond happy.

Was walking home in the rain after a day of shopping and movie and I suddenly feel so blissful. I just couldn't stop smiling to myself. Then the radio happened to be playing a happy Jolin Tsai's song which adds to the mood.

Tonight is so cold and my feet are wet but I feel so warm on the inside.

I found the happy me again.

Working has made me losy quite a bit of myself. I became tired, angsty and emo. I didn't really realised that except a few times when it got quite bad.

I thought that being unemployed and incomeless will make me feel even more emo and lost than I already am... But I was so wrong.

I relish in having the time to do things that I love and not having to chase buses and trains. Time to exercise and watch my korean dramas. Time to write and read. Time to sleep in and roll on my bed.

I hope I will remember this feeling because when the clock strikes 12 tonight, I will officially turn 25.

Happy Birthday Hui Xian! Enjoy life, keep laughing and always look out for that silver lining in the clouds.

Since I'm jobless, this year's gift to myself is a $5 tiny fox head necklace from F21 and a $3.80 Patrick Star PEZ! Simple happy things.

Ukulele on!

written on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 @ 1:04 AM ♥

I bought myself an Ukulele as a birthday treat for myself this year!

Woohoo!!

When I told Rachel I got an Ukulele, she's like "You know how to play meh? You just buy because it's cute, you just wanna spend money and to camwhore one right?".

Nooooo! I am not trying to act as a hippie nor is it for fun. (-_-")

It's just plain interest in it.

I always knew about the Ukulele but have this thinking that it's expensive and only sold in Hawaii. Until a few months' ago, I was talking to this singer I met and we started talking about Ukuleles. She was saying how it's really easy to pick up, like from youtube videos and urged me to go try it.

Since then, I've been toying the idea of getting an Ukulele for fun because I miss the feeling of playing an instrument. My fingers itches to touch an instrument and to play a song, just like the good ol' band days in secondary school. Me and my saxo, and a lot of sweat and blood... lol!

Nerdy Band Days. Spot me if you can!

This little thing is not only cute, it's affordable, sounds melodious and chirpy! SO WHY NOT?!

I went off to youtube some videos and wah, looks easy to play leh. Okay buy!

So I urged Ning to accompany me to Ukulele Movement to choose one.

The cheaper ones are surprisingly the prettier and brightly painted ones! They are usually the ones that don't sound that good because of the material that they are made of. Like wood infront and plastic behind. On the other hand, the uglier or rather normal looking ones are the real deal as they sound better because of the wood.

So basically as a beginner who knows nothing about string instruments, I was feeling very lost. I did googled and read up on "Tips on buying an Ukulele" but that didn't help much. We wandered around the store for quite long before getting one of the peeps there to advice us on it.

I'm super noob at this but roughly... here's what the person over there told me to decide before choosing an Ukulele:

  1. Size - Soprano (smallest, most traditional kind), Alto, Tenor or Baritone
  2. Wood - Solid wood (Best, but expensive) or Laminates (plywoods)
  3. Sound - Test play to hear how different ones sound like! Some more cheery, some deeper toned.
  4. Price - Decided on the rest already so go look for one that fits your budget!
  5. Lastly, get a tuner and you're done! :)

The website is really helpful when choosing one. Unless you are choosing because of looks, I bet you are gonna feel so confused when you step inside the store, coupled with the random strummings of the Ukulele here and there, so this helps ALOT!

Anyway, it's been about 2 weeks since I bought mine and ahh... I don't know why but I feel so happy just looking at it. There's this happy and cheerful aura around it lol. But to be honest, IT'S NOT AS EASY AS I THOUGHT!! GG.

I'm still learning some chords here and there by learning simple songs first. Trying to memorise the fingerings and chords. Figuring out how to strum correctly and getting used to the strumming.

But fear not. Practice makes perfect!
